On December 30, 2014 Ministry has sent a booklet with information about biometric travel documents being introduced in Ukraine to foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Ukraine.

Since January 12 this year regional offices of the State Migration Service began receiving requests from citizens of Ukraine to issue new passport documents.

In order to transfer the samples of new passport documents to foreign diplomatic missions Ministry has ordered the required number of copies in the State Enterprise  “Printing Plant "Ukraine "on manufacturing of securities” which has been transferred to foreign missions on the same day after receiving them 02/02/2015.

The National Action Plan on implementation of the second phase of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan, approved by the order of the CMU of 20.08.2014 № 805-p, entrusts to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to transfer, within one month period after the beginning of biometric passports’ issuance, relevant samples of such documents.

It is recommended to states that have started manufacturing new passport documents to inform other countries about the introduction of such documents and send them relevant samples according to the ICAO guidance documents (DOC9303 machine readable travel documents). Thereupon it is important to note that according to the results of the study by foreign experts on safety of passport documents Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already received favorable review on high level of protection, design, quality of printing works and functionality of new Ukrainian passports.

Thus, at present there are no reservations from foreign countries on the issuance of visas to Ukrainian biometric passports.
