Latvia MFA: Presidency of the EU is a brilliant chance to support Ukraine

On March 31 Deputy Director, Head of Division for Information Policy of the Directorate General for Policy and Communications Yevgen Perebyinis on a visit to Riga met with Director of Security Department Aivars Puriņš, Director for Information and PR Department Evelīna Melbārzde and Director General Bilateral Relations Einārs Semanis.
The Latvian side was briefed about the recent developments in Donbas and implementation of the Minsk agreements by the sides on the East Ukraine situation settlement.
The parties also discussed preparations for the Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga on May 21-22 and other side events.
The parties exchanged their views on current bilateral issues.
The Latvian side confirmed its consistent support for international initiatives of Ukraine, also those within the EU. In that regard the Presidency of Latvia of the Council of the EU is a brilliant opportunity to realize interests of Ukraine. Latvia clearly articulated its support for introduction of a visa-free regime for the citizens of Ukraine and for announcement of this decision during the Riga Summit in case of a relevant positive report of the EC.
