On January 13, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Latvia met with Minister of Justice of the Republic of Latvia Dzintars Rasnačs briefing the latter on Ukraine’s progress in implementation of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan.
The Ambassador expressed his hope on Latvia’s further support of finalization of relevant decisions by the EU so that the visa-free regime takes effect this year already.
Minister Rasnačs hailed the December decision of the European Commission on the assessment of Ukraine’s progress in Visa Liberalization Action Plan implementation and stressed on Latvia’s full support on the issue. He noted no obstacles to preserve the positive position of the Latvian Government to cancel Schengen visas for Ukrainian citizens. According to him, it would become a powerful signal for the Ukrainian society in the context of Ukraine’s integration with the EU. Together with the Interior Ministry and Foreign Ministry, the Justice Ministry is playing an important role in passing a final decision at the level of the EU working bodies to grant Ukraine visa-free regime.
