On September 29, 2016 Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Yevgen Perebyinis met with Economics Minister of the Republic of Latvia Arvils Ašeradens to discuss the state and prospects for the development of Ukrainian – Latvian economic relations, sanction pressure against Russia, promising directions of bilateral cooperation and holding the 6th session of the Intergovernmental Ukrainian – Latvian commission on economic, industrial and scientific and technical cooperation in Kyiv.
The Ambassador told the Minister about losses from Russia’s occupation of Crimea and territories of Donbas. The Ambassador also drew attention to the trends of rehabilitation of the Ukrainian economy and gradual growth of economic indicators due to reforms and shared some plans of further economic development. Yevgen Perebyinis stressed that the Ukraine – EU FTA is a good mechanism of boosting bilateral trade turnover.
The Latvian Minister was pleased to note the united policy of the EU in imposing sanctions against Russia, despite rare attempts of some EU member-states to debate on their decrease or cancel. He reiterated the Latvian stance that sanctions should be prolonged until the Minsk Agreements are fully implemented.
