On 3-10 July a group of children, whose families were forced to abandon their homes in Donetsk and now reside in Mariupol, visited Latvia upon the invitation of the Embassy of Ukraine.
During their holidays the kids were hosted by Ukrainian and Latvian families and visited Riga, Jelgava, Salaspils, Bauska, Ventspils, Jurmala, Sigulda, toured the Chocolate Museum, attended aquapark and numerous excursions.
On 10 July the children were invited to the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, where they met with Speaker Ināra Mūrniece, whom they shared their impressions about Latvia and received gifts. At the parliament the group also chatted with Chairman of the Group for interparliamentary relations with Ukraine Ainārs Mežulis and toured the historical building.
Winding up the trip the group visited the Embassy of Ukraine and showed their numerous talents.
The trip was organized due to the initiative of the coordination center of patriotic forces “New Mariupol”, support of the Congress of Ukrainians of Latvia, the parish of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in Riga and all those who either hosted the children or made donations to organize the program in Latvia. The transportation of children to Latvia and back home was sponsored by Ecolines and Olimp bus companies.
