“The steps of Ukraine to promote the learning of the state language in the education system are understandable”, Minister for Education and Science of Latvia Kārlis Šadurskis told Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin at their meeting in Riga on 29 September 2017.
Citing the Latvian example, he underscored the importance of creating conditions for school children to have enough knowledge of the state language and not be discriminated at the labor market of their country.
The Ukrainian minister stated the interestedness of Ukraine in exploiting the Latvian experience in maintaining education system among national minorities. Pavlo Klimkin also briefed Kārlis Šadurskis on the key elements of the Law of Ukraine “On education”.
During the meeting the parties indicated close cooperation between the countries in the education area, in particular at the university level.
Ministers Pavlo Klimkin and Kārlis Šadurskis signed Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Latvia on cooperation in education, science, youth and sports.
