On 4 June during his regional trip to the city of Saldus President Raimonds Vējonis and his spouse Iveta Vējone opened a Summer Camp for Ukrainian children from families of Ukrainian servicemen from the National Guard of Ukraine and the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In his speech the Latvian President reiterated his strong support of Ukraine and the families of Ukrainian defenders.
Charge d’Affaires a.i. of Ukraine in Latvia Alisa Podolyak thanked Latvia for regular support in rehabilitation of children, treatment of servicemen and provision of humanitarian aid to the hit families.
The program of the camp, situated in Kurzeme, between 3 and 9 June includes trips to Liepājā, Ventspils, Riga, sport and cultural events. The camp was organized by the Latvian Cadet Force and Information Center (Jaunsardze), the National Guard of Ukraine, the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the support from the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia.
The support from the Latvian Ministry of Defence has been regular since 2014 with sending humanitarian aid, in particular, clothes, school items, gifts for children of active servicemen or those whose parents were killed in action. The first camp was organized in 2017.
