In connection with misleading information in the article by RUS DELFI "Крымский мост соединил берега железнодорожными пролетами” the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia sent a letter to the Editor-in-chief, Anatolijs Golubovs.
In its letter the Embassy of Ukraine draws the attention to a misleading information in the article “Крымский мост соединил берега железнодорожными пролетами”, which was published on 25 March 2019 at rus.delfi.lv. Regrettably the article doesn’t contain a reference to the official position of the Republic of Latvia, condemning the illegal construction of the bridge as another attack on the territorial integrity of Ukraine and aimed at forced integration of the occupied peninsula into Russia, limitation of navigation in the Kerch Strait, as it was stated in the respective statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia on 16 May 2018.
Referring to the bridge “as the longest bridge in Russia” misleads the readers of the RUS DELFI portal and creates an impression of belonging of the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol to Russia, while the Republic of Latvia has never recognized the illegal annexation and condemned the occupation of Crimea by Russia.
The United Nations General Assembly, in its Resolution of 27 March 2014 “Territorial Integrity of Ukraine” and Resolution of 17 December 2018 “Problem of the Militarization of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the City of Sevastopol, Ukraine, as well as Parts of the Black and Azov”, have clearly condemned the annexation of Crimea by Russia. This position was clearly stated in numerous resolutions of other international organizations, as well as in the statements of the Saeima and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
The Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Latvia requested RUS DELFI portal to correct the information and avoid this kind of misleading information in the future.
