During his working visit to Latvia, on January 16th 2012 Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko was received by President of the Republic of Latvia Andris Bērziņš.
The meeting was focused on a follow-up to the agreements reached during the December 2010 visit of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych to Latvia in terms of further enhancement of bilateral cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian fields.
Upcoming bilateral events, such as the Fifth Session of Ukraine-Latvia Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, as well as visits of high-ranking Ukrainian officials to Latvia were also on the agenda.
Special attention was paid by the Parties to the issues of ethnic Ukrainians living in Latvia. Minister Gryshchenko highly appreciated the successful implementation of the renovation project of the Riga Ukrainian Secondary School and expressed deep gratitude to the Latvian State for taking care about the Ukrainian community.
President Bērziņš reiterated a steadfast Latvia’s support for the European integration aspirations of Ukraine and expressed a readiness to share Latvian experience in the areas of key importance for Ukraine.
