The ceremony was held at the memorial on the site of the Great Choral Synagogue in Riga, which was burned down on the orders of the Nazi occupation authorities on 4 July 1941, marking the beginning of the Holocaust in Latvia.
The event brought together representatives of the Latvian state authorities, the diplomatic corps, the Jewish community and the public. Participants laid flowers at the memorial to the victims of the Holocaust and at the monument to the Righteous Among the Nations, paying tribute to the memory of tens of thousands of innocent victims of the Nazi regime.
