In response to Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine has established the International Legion for the Defence of Ukraine — a dedicated military formation within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This unit is composed of foreign citizens who voluntarily stand with Ukraine in defending peace, freedom, and democracy.

Citizens of Latvia and other countries are welcome to join.

Members of the Legion serve under contract in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, receive military training, and are entitled to the same legal protections, financial support, and benefits as all Ukrainian servicemen.

• Who can apply?
  Foreign nationals with no criminal record and with a desire to support Ukraine’s defence.

• What is required?
  Valid identification documents, a basic level of physical fitness, and readiness to follow military discipline. Prior military experience is an advantage but not mandatory.
