On November 11, 2020 the 8th Session of the Ukrainian-Latvian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation was held in online format chaired by the Minister of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine O.Nemchinov and the Minister of Economics of Latvia J.Vitenbergs.
In accordance with the Agenda, the sides discussed the priority areas of trade and economic cooperation, including trade, agriculture, transport, energy and others. The key speakers of the meeting from the Ukrainian side were: Ministry of Economy - Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian part of the Commission, Deputy Minister, Trade Representative of Ukraine T.Kachka, Foreign Ministry - Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian part of the Commission, Ambassador of Ukraine O.Mischenko, Ministry of Infrastructure - Deputy Minister N. Forsyuk, Ministry of Energy - Head of the Department V.Kotsyuba, Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs - First deputy president, Co-Chair of the Ukraine-Latvia Business Council S.Prokhorov. The representatives of other institutions of Ukraine also took part in this meeting.
The sides stressed the possibility of intensification trade and economic cooperation as an important component of Ukrainian-Latvian relations. Despite the crisis related to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the significant economic potential and the joint willingness of the parties to further cooperation were noted.
As a result of the talks, the sides agreed to work more actively to create favorable conditions for the growth of trade and investment in the markets of both countries, as well as to promote the development of business contacts between Ukrainian and Latvian entrepreneurs. An example of such cooperation is the establishment with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia in 2020 of the "Ukrainian Trading House" headed by O.Petrov.
The importance of holding the Ukrainian-Latvian business forum scheduled for November 24, 2020, within which presentations and meetings of business circles of both countries will take place, was also noted.
Ministers O.Nemchinov and J.Vitenbergs have signed the Protocol of the 8th session of the Intergovernmental Commission, which defines specific issues of further economic cooperation and mechanisms for their practical implementation, and agreed to hold the 9th session of the Commission in Riga.
