On 1 February, 2013 the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Latvia Anatoliy Oliynyk paid a working visit to Ventspils. During the visit the Ambassador was acquainted with the policy and working practice of local government with entrepreneurs in economic field and visited the most powerful, modern and economically attractive enterprises of the region.
In the framework of the visit the meeting with the head of Ventspils City Council A.Lembergs and his first deputy J.Vitolinsh was held. During the meeting the officials discussed the work of the local authorities and presented transit, industrial and investment opportunities of Ventspils.
The Ambassador had a meeting with the head of Ventspils Free Port Mr. I.Sarmulis, Director of the plant of biodiesel production «BioVenta», Mr. I.Stikans and the Chairman of Europe's largest indoor marine coal terminal «Baltic coal terminal» Mr. I.Sokolov, representative of «Kalija Parks» enterprise Mr. E.Redyko. The Ambassador also had a meeting with the director of the Parvent library Ms. I.Gredzen. During the meeting the Ambassador presented to the library the book "St. Sophia" in English and Ukrainian languages.
During the meetings the Ambassador informed his interlocutors about the parliamentary elections in Ukraine, economic situation, potential of the internal market, carrying out working practices in the ports of Ukraine on the conditions of concession, program of economic reforms of the President of Ukraine V.Yanukovych, its benefits and progress, purposes and tasks of the Government on the way of implementation of reforms.
Special attention was paid to the forthcomming "Ukraine-EU" summit, Ukrainian Government on the way to European integration, signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU not later than "Eastern Partnership" summit, liberalization of the EU visa regime and Chairmanship of Ukraine in the OSCE.
