On 1 March 2012, the photo exhibition "Ukraine - Latvia: 20 years of diplomatic relations" was held in the Academic Library of University of Latvia.
In his welcoming speech Ambassador told about the achievements of Ukraine and Latvia in the development of political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties, and highlighted the importance of Latvia’s support of the European integration aspirations of Ukraine. "I am confident that relations between Ukraine and the Republic of Latvia will be getting stronger. Our friendship has deep historical roots and great prospects for further development in the united Europe” – stressed Anatoliy Oliynyk.
The exhibition describes the development of political dialogue between Ukraine and Latvia, bilateral relations in trade and economic cooperation, cultural cooperation and the activities of the Ukrainian Literature Division of the Academic Library of University of Latvia, Riga Ukrainian Secondary School and the Ukrainian community of Latvia. The exhibition was opened on 10 February 2012 at the University of Latvia during the official visit of Prime Minister of Ukraine Mr. Mykola Azarov to Latvia. The exhibition will travel by Latvian cities.
Guests of the event were also able to acquaint themselves with the exhibition of periodical and book publications, prepared by the Director of the Academic Library of University of Latvia and the Ukrainian Literature Division. The selection illustrates the development of Ukrainian-Latvian cooperation during 20 years. The exhibition also presents the books in Ukrainian, published by writers of Ukrainian origin living in Latvia.
The event was attended by the representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Riga, Ukrainian community of Latvia and the Latvian media.
