On 29 February 2012, 100 days before the official opening of the European Football Championship, a friendly football match between the joint team of the embassies of Ukraine and Poland in Latvia and the team of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia took place in Riga.
The event was opened by Mrs. Solvīta Āboltiņa, Head of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, and the Ambassadors of Ukraine and Poland – the States, hosting the European Football Championship in 2012. In his speech Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Mr. Anatoliy Oliynyk noted: “Holding this championship at the Ukrainian stadiums proves - Ukraine in historical, civilizational, cultural aspects belongs to the common European family of nations”.
The Saeima team was represented by the Members of the Latvian Parliament, and in the joint team of the embassies of Ukraine and Poland in Latvia played the members of those diplomatic missions and the representatives of the Ukrainian and Polish communities. The game ended with the score 1:1 - friendship won.
Promotion and information materials about Ukraine’s preparation to holding the Championship were distributed among the Latvian public. The representatives of prominent Latvian mass-media attended the event.
