On 17 May 2011 in the Hall of Coat of Arms of the Riga Castle – the official residence of the President of Latvia – a solemn ceremony of presenting the Letters of Credence of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of Latvia Mr. Anatoliy Oliynyk to President of Latvia Mr. Valdis Zatlers took place.
After the ceremony Ambassador and Head of Latvian State had a tête-à-tête meeting. The perspectives of developing bilateral cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian areas in the light of implementation of the agreements reached during the visit of President of Ukraine Mr. Viktor Yanukovych to Latvia in December 2010 were discussed. Important bilateral events that are to take place in 2011, such as the holding of the Forth Session of Ukraine-Latvia intergovernmental commission on economic, industrial, scientific and technological cooperation and preparing the visits of high Ukrainian officials to Latvia were also subject of discussion.
Within the context of exchange of thoughts on the issues on the international agenda Valdis Zatlers reiterated unfailing Latvia’s support of European integration aspirations of Ukraine and the readiness to share its experience in the spheres that are of key priority for Ukraine.
By the end of the meeting Ambassador of Ukraine Anatoliy Oliynyk expressed gratitude to Latvian State for caring about ethnic Ukrainians who live in Latvia.
