On March 9, 2011 Charge d’Affairs of Ukraine in Latvia O. Kushnir visited the city of Daugavpils.
During the visit O. Kushnir held a meeting with Head of Daugavpils city Council Mr. Jānis Lāčplēsis. The parties discussed the perspectives of deepening cultural, economic and business interregional cooperation, e.g. between sister cities – Kharkiv and Daugavpils.
Latvian Side was briefed on reaching the criteria of the visa free regime between Ukraine and European Union, our state’s achievements on judicial reform, holding of the European Football Championship in 2012.
During the visit to Daugavpils O. Kushnir also held a meeting with the leadership of Daugavpils region authority. The Parties discussed the perspectives of developing interregional cooperation with one of the regions in Ukraine, e.g. the Ichnia regional state administration of Chernigiv district. Perspective trends of cooperation could be green tourism, exchange of experience in regional management and development of cultural relations.
Within the framework of the visit, a solemn opening of the exhibition of works of Ukrainian embroidery took place in Daugavpils Museum of Art and Crafts. Greeting the guests of the event, Charge d’Affairs of Ukraine in Latvia O.Kushnir mentioned: «The works of older and younger generations of are present at the exhibition. The works of O. Vasylyshyna re-create traditional Ukrainian embroidery; A. Rudnytska’s works are more modern and unexpected, but still very Ukrainian. The visitors have a chance to chose, which style they like more».
The representatives of the Embassy also held a meeting with Ukrainian diaspora of Daugavpils. Ukrainians living in this city presented the concert dedicated to the 168th anniversary of famous Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko. They also could communicate with consul of the Embassy and get full answers to their questions.
