Ukraine welcomes the resolution on continuation of sanctions against Russia adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The Russian delegation deprived of the voting rights in the Assembly and the right to be represented in the in the governing bodies of the Assembly, the right to represent the Assembly in Council of Europe bodies and other organizations, the right to be member of an ad hoc committee on observation of elections, and Russian delegation members cannot be appointed rapporteurs.
This decision is viewed as an evidence of solidarity between European countries in their assessment of events in Ukraine and consolidated response of the Assembly to the aggression of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
The resolution contains an important list of specific requirements to the Russian Federation. Among them - to release Nadiya Savchenko within 24 hours, reverse the illegal annexation of Crimea, stop harassment against Crimean Tatars and ethnic Ukrainians, withdraw all troops from Ukrainian territory, refrain from supplying weapons to the insurgent forces, strictly comply with the Minsk agreements.
Together with the entire international community Ukraine expects concrete steps from the Russian side aimed at immediate, complete and unconditional implementation of PACE resolution that will allow the return of voting right in the Assembly to the Russian delegation.
