Ukraine is indignant by Akhtem Chiygoz detention in Crimea, one of the leaders of the Majlis of the Crimean Tatars, following the absurd charges of organizing and participating in riots that took place on February 26, 2014 in Simferopol, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
This shameful incident is a sequel of the criminal policy of Russia in the occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea aimed at discrediting the everything Ukrainian and harassment of the Crimean Tatar people who commit most active resistance to it.
It should be stressed that the arrest of Akhtem Chiygoz was preceded by the search in the premises of the Crimean Tatar TV-channel "ATR" in Simferopol which resulted in confiscation of video-archives of the February 26, 2014 events in Simferopol. The only "guilt" of the "ATR" TV-channel was covering of those events.
We demand that the Russian occupation authorities should immediately release Akhtem Chiygoz, stop Crimean Tatars persecution and take steps to stop the systematic violations of human rights in the Crimea.
We call on the international community to condemn the acts of persecution and terror against the Crimean Tatar people of Crimea.
We are convinced that repressions committed by the occupation authorities could not break the spirit of the Crimean Tatar people, who have survived deportation organized by the Stalin's regime.
