One year is marked these days since the illegal occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation.
Through committing this international crime, Russia violated basic principles of international law and European fundamentals, destroyed the existing balance of power in the region and provoked the largest security crisis in Europe since the Second World War.
At the UN General Assembly Resolution 68/262 of 27 March 2014 "The territorial integrity of Ukraine" the international community has given a strict reply to the attempts of Russian invaders on legitimization of their illegal actions through staging illegal and rigged "referendum" conducted under the muzzles of Russian weapons. The international community emphasized that «referendum» «having no validity, cannot form the basis for any alteration of the status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea or of the city of Sevastopol». The whole civilized world has applied sanctions against the Russian Federation for its blatant disregard for the fundamental norms and principles of international law.
Righteous indignation of the world is caused by the fact that having occupied Crimea, Russian authorities brought to the peninsula a climate of fear, injustice and repression. RF knowingly and unpunished persists in violating human rights in the occupied territory, practice terror against dissenters, especially Ukrainians and Crimean Tatars, conducts arrests, searches, persecutes and detains public activists, as well as launched a war against independent media and journalists. Ukrainians of Crimea have no access to education in Ukrainian and to Ukrainian media. During the occupation more than 20 thousand citizens of Ukraine were forced to leave Crimea.
Russia is pursuing a targeted robbery of Ukraine. More than 400 Ukrainian enterprises are nationalized unlawfully, the bowels of Ukraine are used illegally, 18 gas fields are seized. Adventurous and criminal policy of the occupation authorities leads to the economic, social and environmental disaster in Crimea. Tourist pearl of Ukraine is turned into a military base, where Russia in violation of the NPT, threatens to place also nuclear weapons, that constitute a menace not only to the regional but global security.
We would like to assure all our compatriots that despite difficult times, which Ukrainian citizens residents of the Crimea are now experiencing, Ukraine does and will do everything possible to restore control over the peninsula.
Crimea was, is and will remain an integral part of the sovereign territory of Ukraine.
Russian aggressor and occupier will be for sure brought to responsibiity for all the committed crimes.
We call on the international community to strengthen attention to the occupied Crimea, consolidate international pressure on Russia for its immediate return to the mainstream of international law, abolishing of all illegal decisions that led to the temporary occupation of Ukrainian territory and compensation for losses caused to Ukraine and its citizens.
