On 14 July 2012, the Sixth artistic festival of the Ukrainian community in Latvia “Red Guelder-rose” took place in Jekabpils.
When opening the Festival, Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Anatoliy Oliynyk stressed the importance of this celebration for the Ukrainian community and its contribution to the development of Ukraine-Latvia cultural and humanitarian cooperation. “Colorful song festival of the Ukrainian community in Latvia brings beauty, kindness and love not only to thousands of Latvian Ukrainians, but to all Latvian society. By visiting Latvian cities, “Red Guelder-rose” allows to present the rich treasures of Ukrainian culture to the Latvian public", - said the Ambassador.
Head of the Jekabpils City Council Leonids Salcevics, Members of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia – members of the Group for inter-parliamentary relations with Ukraine, representatives of the mass-media attended the opening ceremony.
The guests of the festival had the opportunity to enjoy Ukrainian songs and dances, performed by the artistic groups of Ukrainian communities from all regions of Latvia. The final accord of the “Red Guelder-rose” was the gala concert of all Ukrainian ensembles.
During the visit to Jekabpils the meeting of the Ambassador with Head of the Jekabpils City Council Leonids Salcevics took place. During the negotiations Anatoliy Oliynyk and Leonids Salcevics exchanged views on possibilities of deepening inter-regional cooperation between Ukraine and Latvia. The Ambassador of Ukraine handed over the business proposals of Ukrainian companies for consideration by Jekabpils entrepreneurs, told about Ukraine’s achievements in implementing systemic reforms to promote European integration. The Mayor was vividly interested in Ukraine’s successes in the context of holding of European Football Championship and preparation to the parliamentary elections.
