On October 28 a joint meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Edgars Rinkēvičs, Lithuania Linas Linkevičius, Estonia Jürgen Ligi and Vice Prime Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsandze was held in Riga.
During the meeting the parties agreed to unite efforts to prevent non-ratification of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement by the Dutch parliament. The participants were unanimous that this step would bring adverse consequences both for Ukraine and EU member-states and urged to take coordinated and immediate joint moves to seek a balanced decision.
The ministers emphasized the necessity of soonest possible adoption by the European Parliament of the decision on introduction of the visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU by Ukraine – EU Summit on November 24, 2016.
The Baltic Foreign Ministers aired their support for territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, confirmed invariability of non-recognition policy towards illegal occupation of Crimea by Russia and stressed the need to prolong sanctions against Russia until the Minsk agreements fully implemented. The parties agreed that no election is possible on the occupied territories until Ukraine restores control of the Ukrainian – Russian borderline.
