On 26 August 2012, a photo exhibition to the Independence Day of Ukraine, organized by the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia with the assistance of Ukrainian cultural and educational society "Dream" and Dauhavpilskoyi City Council was inaugurated in the city of Daugavpils within the framework of the City Day celebration.
When opening the exhibition, Charge d'Affaires of Ukraine in Latvia Oleksandr Kushnir said: "Declaration of Independence crowned the Ukrainians’ struggle for the right to have their own state, freedom to develop national culture, to be a full member of the international community. Today Ukraine is a democratic state that undergoes systemic transformation in order to achieve its dream - to live in a united European family of nations. And along the way we feel the friendly support of Latvia. We are united by perennial relationships of mutual respect, friendship and cooperation. Latvia also became a second home for the 45 thousand Ukrainians, as evidenced by the invaluable assistance of the Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Society "Mrija" and Daugavpils City Council in organizing this festival".
During the visit to the city Charge d'Affairs Oleksandr Kushnir gave interview to Daugavpils television, in which spoke about Ukraine's achievements in 21 years of independence and the current state and prospects of development of Ukrainian-Latvian relations.
Local government officials, media and Ukrainian community in Latvia representatives, the inhabitants and guests of Daugavpils attended the event.
