On 3 September 2012, Charge d’Affairs of Ukraine in the Republic of Latvia Oleksandr Kushnir took part in the holiday - Day of Knowledge, which is traditionally held in the Riga Ukrainian Secondary School. The Charge d’Affairs congratulated the teaching staff, students and their parents and guests of the event. "Each of you is a so-called “visiting card” of Ukraine. Thanks to you – young and adults – Latvia and the world can know more about Ukraine, its history and traditions, inexhaustible cultural heritage of our people”.
Oleksandr Kushnir told about the steps of the Ukrainian State to support Ukrainian community abroad. “Due to Ukraine’ support and the efforts of the Riga Council the children of ethnic Ukrainians living in Latvia have the opportunity to acquire knowledge in a beautiful renovated premises. This renovated school is a striking example of genuine concern about national minorities in Latvia, the testimony of her friendly attitude towards Ukraine” – said the Charge d’Affairs.
Representatives of the Ukrainian community of Latvia also greeted the pupils with the Day of Knowledge. Head of the Ukrainian society “Dzherelo” Tetiana Lazda presented personally embroidered rushnyk.
Students of the school performed a concert presenting Ukrainian and Latvian songs and dances. At the end of the event the guests performed the anthem of Riga Ukrainian Secondary School.
The celebration was attended by activists of the Ukrainian community, local media, academics and intellectuals.
