The Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn presented the Order of Freedom to the Ex-President of the Republic of Latvia Valdis Zatlers on Tuesday.
V. Zatlers received the Order under the Decree of the President of Ukraine for considerable personal contribution into Chornobyl aftermath mitigation, implementation of international humanitarian programs, and long and fruitful public activity.
The Head of the Parliament said that the activity of V. Zatlers is known and respected in Ukraine. He characterized his contribution into development of bilateral relations as extremely important.
In his turn, the ex-President of Latvia thanked for the honor and said that he would always remain a friend of Ukraine.
The award ceremony was held at the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia.
