On 3 May Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Olexandr Mischenko met with Chairperson of the European Affairs Committee of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia Vita Anda Tērauda.
Committee Chair underlined the support of European integration of Ukraine and stated readiness to share Latvian reform experience, including in the anticorruption sphere. Vita Anda Tērauda congratulated on free and democratic elections in Ukraine. While commenting on the outcomes of the election of the President, the Ukrainian Ambassador confirmed the strong European integration commitment of Ukraine.
Olexandr Mischenko positively assessed the adoption by the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Saeima of the statement on the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the deportation of Crimean Tatars and expressing support for the policy of non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea. In her turn, the Committee Chair informed about her intention to vote in favor of the statement at the level of the parliament.
The parties stressed on the importance of keeping the sanction policy of the EU in response to the Russian aggression against Ukraine and ongoing occupation of Ukrainian territories and discussed security threats from realization of the Nord Stream 2 project.
