On 26 October 2012, Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia solemnly opened the International Festival of Children and Youth Arts, organized in Riga by the Ukrainian Congress of Latvia, the Ukrainian Centre for Children and Youth of Latvia in cooperation with the Embassy of Ukraine in Latvia.
In his welcoming address to the participants of the festival Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Anatoliy Oliynyk noted: "I firmly believe that holding this festival does not only promote popularization of the Ukrainian culture in Latvia and Europe, but also helps to present the inexhaustible treasures of our people to local society. The festival is a bridge of friendship, mutual respect and love among different nations, a symbol of unity of the Ukrainian community".
The festival will last until 30 October 2012. The ensembles from Ukraine are to take part in the concert program of the ferry Tallink travelling from Riga to Stockholm and back. Children and youth groups from Kharkiv, Zaporizzhia, Sumy, Lviv, Riga, Jelgava region, Jekabpils and Tallinn participate in the festival. The youngest participant of the festival is only 4 years old.
The International Festival of Children and Youth Arts is held in Riga for the second time. The first festival took place in September 2011.
