On 24 October 2012, the meeting of Coordinative Council of the activists of Ukrainian community of Latvia was held. The meeting was chaired by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Latvia Mr. Anatoliy Oliynyk.
In his introduction, Ambassador briefed on the internal and foreign policy priorities of Ukraine, as well as about the present state and perspectives of Ukraine-Latvia bilateral relations. The main attention was focused on the preparing the elections of People’s Deputies of Ukraine. The Ambassador stressed the Government’s actions to ensure democracy and transparency of the election process.
During the meeting future events to be held in Latvia with participation of Ukrainian diaspora were discussed. It was agreed that among the priorities should be the holding of the International Festival of Children and Youth Art, commemorative events to the Day of Holodomor Victims, celebrating the anniversary of prominent figures of the Ukrainian people. The participants of the meeting shared their views on the plans of celebration of the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko.
Duringthe session of the Coordination Council the towel of Ukrainians of Latvia was solemnly handed over to Dauhavpils Ukrainian Cultural and Educational Society "Mrija" for further embroidery.
The heads of the Ukrainian organizations from Riga, Vangazhi, Jelgava, Daugavpils, Jekabpils, Ludza and other regions of the Republic of Latvia took part in the event.
