On 16 March 2012, the meeting of Coordinative Council of the activists of Ukrainian community of Latvia was held. The meeting was chaired by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Latvia Mr. Anatoliy Oliynyk.
In his introduction, Ambassador briefed on the internal and foreign policy priorities of Ukraine, as well as about the present state and perspectives of Ukraine-Latvia bilateral relations. The Ukrainian community was informed about the signing by President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych of the Law, expanding the rights of Ukrainians living in other states.
During the meeting future events to be held in Latvia in 2012 with participation of Ukrainian diaspora were discussed. It was agreed that among the priorities should be the celebration of the 21st anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, 15th anniversary of the Ukrainian organization “Vodogray” from Rezekne, and holding the 6th Festival of Ukrainian communities of Latvia “Red Guelder-rose”.
At the beginning of the meeting the Embassy staff and Ukrainian community representatives observed the minute of silence in memory of Mykola Plavyuk, the famous public figure, the last president of Ukrainian People’s Republic in exile.
The heads of the Ukrainian organizations from Riga, Vangazhi, Jelgava, Daugavpils, Liepaja and other regions of the Republic of Latvia took part in the event.
