Speaker of the Latvian Saeima Inara Murniece visited the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Latvia to express her condolences to Ukraine in connection with the death of peaceful residents of Mariupol, as a result of the shelling of the city by pro-Russian militants.
Ms Murniece made an entry to the Book of Condolences, saying that “Latvia strictly condemns the terrorist violence in Ukraine and those supporting terrorists”. The Speaker of the parliament wished soon recovery to all injured and the punishment to the culprits.
On January 26 and 27 the condolences to the people of Ukraine in connection with the tragedy in Mariupol were also expressed by the representatives of the diplomatic corps in Riga and the Ukrainian diaspora.
As a result of “DNR” terrorists’ shelling of Mariupol residential areas on January 24, as many as 31 people were killed, including one child, and over 95 were wounded, among them 9 children.
