On April 23, 2010 Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Mr. R.Chilachava held a meeting with pupils of Riga «Rinuži» school, dedicated to the foreign policy priorities of Ukraine.
During the meeting Ambassador informed the pupils on the perspectives of European integration of Ukraine, its relations with strategic partners and Ukraine-Latvia relations. It was stressed that the development of cooperation with European Union and Russian Federation are key tasks of Ukrainian diplomacy.
The students were interested in the vision of Ukrainian of the future of Polish-Swedish initiative of cooperation with the EU – the Eastern Partnership. R.Chilachava stressed that our counties position remains unchanged: the final format of this initiative should not be an alternative to full-scale membership to the EU. However, Ukraine welcomes all efforts aimed at finding innovative and ambitious ways of developing cooperation with the EU.
Talking about present state of Ukraine-Latvia relations, R.Chilachava praised the absence of problems or unsolved issues in bilateral relations. Latvia has also always been advocate of Ukraine in its European integration aspirations.
R.Chilachava also touched upon the present state of cooperation between Ukraine and NATO, perspective projects of our cooperation with the Alliance.
The students showed great interest in internal situation in Ukraine, for instance, presidential elections results, education reform etc.
