On 27 December 2011 the meeting of Coordinative Council of the activists of Ukrainian community of Latvia was held. The meeting was chaired by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Latvia Mr. Anatoliy Oliynyk.
The main achievements of the joint activities of the Embassy and Ukrainian communities in 2011 were discussed during the meeting. Organization of numerous events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian community in Latvia, the 20th anniversary of independence of Ukraine and other dates in Ukrainian history was especially noted.
The participants also discussed the scheduled activities for 2012, as well as possible ways of assistance from the Embassy.
At the meeting of the Coordinative Council, the Ambassador of Ukraine to Latvia Anatoliy Oliynyk presented the activists of Ukrainian community of Latvia with Certificates of Honor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Ludmyla Belintseva, Sarmite Dzilna, Valentyna Zarnytska and clergyman Ambrose were awarded with high honors for their activities on preserving national, cultural and ethnic identity of Ukrainians abroad, strengthening ties with Ukraine and strengthening its positive image in the world. When presenting the Certificates of Honor, Ambassador of Ukraine said: "I would like to express the words of appreciation to all of you for the work you do. Thanks to you the Ukrainian community in Latvia confidently declares its affiliation to a large Ukrainian family, though dispersed around the world they are united by common spirit of love to the Motherland".
The heads of the Ukrainian cultural and educational organizations from Riga, Vangazhi, Jelgava, Daugavpils, Liepaja and other regions of the Republic of Latvia took part in the event.
